Varšavski B SIDES brend iza kojeg stoji dizajnerica Basia Chrabołowska savršen je za sve one zaljubljenike u tople, primjetne kreacije od vune koje u sebi sadrže dašak retra… Mene su ovi vuneni komadi totalno osvojili pa sam odlučila popričati sa simpatičnom dizajnericom o njezinom radu i upoznati je kroz ovaj kratak intervju. Basia i ja smo intervju odradile na engleskom pa ga takvog i pročitajte.

How come you became interested in wool?

Everything started in childhood. I spent most of my free time sitting next to sewing machine, balls of wool and needles. It was my grandmother who educated me in this matter and gave me the know-how. Since I remember I was always cold and wool became a natural material to experiment with. More I knew, more I appreciated it. Really few people know about its extraordinary features and they still perceive it as unfashionable, unpleasant or prickly. I wanted to change this perception by showing its fashionable, sexy and feminine side. For first SS 2012 collection I chose merino wool, the most precious sheep wool in the world, which is light, soft, naturally elastic, heat insulating and anti-allergic. I chose it because of its elasticity, which was the starting point for SS 2012 inspiration – Flashdance dancer’s garments.           

What inspires you?

The motive of contrast present in art, photography, graphics, music or architecture. Contrast will always be a starting point for every B SIDES collection.

Who is your ideal customer?

B SIDES pieces are dedicated for individualists, creative and open minded people who run off clichés, appreciate comfort, the highest quality fabrics and unpretentious design.

Have you ever been to any fashion week?

During last edition of FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland I participated as one of polish designers in cloudmine concept store. So far, It was my first fashion week and we’ll see what happens in the future…  

Which celebrity would you like to wear your clothes?

Alexa Chung. Her fresh and unpretentious look appeals to B SIDES philosophy.

What is your price range?

70 euros (tops) – 130 euros (body’s, skirts) – 200 euros (sweaters).

What are your plans for the future?

I’m in the middle of planning FW 2012/13. This time my inspiration is Edward Steichen’s and Jacques Henri Lartigue work. Especially women they photographed: Pola Negri, Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford. Women with contrasted personalities. On the one hand – mysterious, powerful, dynamic and against common conventions, on the other – innocent, very fragile and usually building their power on men’s presence.

Also soon in June I will open my own showroom in Warsaw in very inspiring place with creative young polish people. More information you will find on B SIDES facebook profile.

And about other plans…I’ve many of them but maybe for the moment I won’t reveal everything. 😉
